NEW YORK, NY, May 30, 2014 – WestwoodOne proudly announces that First Light with Dirk Van will be celebrating its 25th year on the air on Monday, June 2, 2014. First Light airs weekday mornings at 5:00 am ET and is cleared on 195 stations, including KFWB-AM/Los Angeles, KSEV-AM/Houston, WRDW-AM/Augusta, KOMO-AM/FM/Seattle, WNAV-AM/Annapolis, WIBA-AM/Madison and KXL-FM/Portland.
First Light is an engaging, one-hour news/talk magazine show that provides in-depth coverage of top news, plus entertainment, business and sports reports in a fast-paced environment. The program features on-the-scene reports and analysis, interviews with celebrities, newsmakers, and live interaction with listeners responding to the “Question of the Day.” The show has won numerous awards from the International Radio Festival, Ohio State University, and other prestigious organizations. It has been hosted by Dirk Van since its inception in 1989.
“What an honor to be on the air for a quarter century, hosting a show with so many great affiliates—not to mention getting an earful from listeners each day,” said Van. “I’ve always felt I just guided this program along from day to day. The real stars are the First Light Crew--producer David Oziel, the man with the Devorecast—Dean Devore, our sports geek Robert Workman, Marketwatcher Charlie Turner, and our peerless movie critic Chuck Rich. The secret of First Light is easy. It’s always fresh, often funny, and forever entertaining. And thanks to the energetic participation of our listeners, it’s never ‘just another radio show.’”
"I have worked alongside Dirk and First Light for many years—and it’s always first-class,” said Bart Tessler, WestwoodOne's EVP, News and Talk. “First Light is a respected and well-received show among peers and listeners, which is a testament to Dirk and his team. For one hour every morning his audience is informed, enlightened, and actively engaged—the pinnacle for any radio show. Happy 25th anniversary, First Light. You’ve made us proud for 25 years.”
